Ah, those dangerous sleds with metal runners! Thanks for jarring similar memories in my head. And I'm with you on staying inside and writing these bitterly cold days.
My eldest, now 45, remembers that when he was a child here in MA we expected a week when the temperature would hover around zero (and I remember minus 20 degrees, which burst the hot water tank in our stone cellar). We skated on the pond, daylight and moonlight, and if it was covered with snow, I shoveled enough to skate in a circle. I always had a brunch on New Years Day and guests would bring skates or snowshoes; either way we'd all pile outside. I'm comforted to see that despite climate change we can still have "real" winter.
Great post, as always. I am not a fan of winter, especially snow and ice, having lived in California for eleven years. I was born and raised in Wisconsin, and lived in Wyoming and Nebraska, but I truly don't like snow. Yet, I have fond memories growing up and more recently with our three kids and now grandson. Life is good and what you make of it, right?
Cool pics and sculptures! And super cold weather...Pobrecita Stella, she is waiting for spring. But awesome time to write. The Talking Table must be whispering interesting stories by now :-) Muchos hugs.
Love hearing about your amazing family. Snow sculptures!! Warms my heart. And I am deeply done with winter!!! I'm with you Stella.
Right now she's under the couch, likely dreaming of the mice she can't catch and eat. Stay warm!
Yes, I am so "done" with winter, too.
'Done' is a good word for winter.
I have to psych myself up to walk my dog twice a day, which is usually a joyful chore. But these days it can be a brutal experience.
Yes, I don't envy dog owners this time of year.

I will be "done" in a couple of days. Would you like to read a copy?
Yes, amiguis! Of course.
