Joan, this was an outstanding post. I would have enjoyed taking a class from that professor, I think. As an educator for many years, I've seen invisible kids. They wander the hallways, sit in stairwells and in hallways, maybe in some corner of the cafeteria. I used to sit beside them and try to engage them in a conversation. A few would take part, many wouldn't. Sometimes, I think, invisibility is a choice. Other times, it might be forced upon them- unfairly so. Again, thanks for sharing.

Maybe lots of books, but Moby Dick is up there and my favorite quote was when he was digressing about books about whales and how unrealistic the pictures in them were. He said of one something close to: "That is not a whale. That, sir, is a squash." Oh that had to sting. What I liked best about the book is the joy Melville obviously had in writing it.
