I love this column about your fictional mothers. I think that's why my favorite book in the Isabel Long series is "Finding the Source," about the mother whose infant daughter is kidnapped from her front yard. In the same way, my favorite movie in the "Alien" series is the second one, "Aliens," where Lt. Ripley comes upon a surviving 9-year-old girl named Newt. Mother's Day is so poignant. I think it is only happy for a subset of mothers.

Maria is my favorite!! But I must say that I love Mira too. Imagine how hard it must be parenting jinn twins. Double trouble, magical trouble :-)

I wish as a mother I had her magical powers.
